What does the application do?

Cost-effective and efficient tool to track the locations of mobile phones in a vehicle tracking system or in a buddy tracking website.

Aspicore GSM Tracker is an S60 application, which makes the smartphone into a real-time AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) tracking device.

The application determines the location with a GPS receiver and transmits the tracking data to a server in real-time through a cellular packet data connection. The data connection to the server is usually made via the Internet.

System description and purpose

Typically the server computer stores the received tracking data into a SQL database. The data can be visualized with simple map software, (e.g. Google Maps for Enterprise, Google Earth) or it can be linked to a professional fleet management system or a mobile workforce management system.

Individual users can use Aspicore GSM Tracker for personal location tracking. They can e.g. automatically publish their current location and daily track on their web page. They may recover a lost GPS phone through an SMS enquiry.

Users can share their current location online with their buddies using the free GpsGate.com service provided by Franson Technology AB.

Adjustable accuracy and data cost

You can configure the timers and events, which trigger the data send action. By default, the data is sent in a compact UDP datagram, only a little over 100 packet data bytes per message. This means that the data transfer costs are minimal compared to e.g. SMS and the communication transactions are very fast.

Cell ID capable

You don't even need necessarily to have as many GPS receivers as tracked mobile phones, if a lower accuracy suffices and there are only a few places or standard routes you want to have recognised. The location of the mobile phone can also be determined by the network cell id, which identifies the cell tower the phone is connected to.

Position polling by SMS

You can use standard SMS to enquire the location of your phone. The location is indentified e.g. by an integrated GPS or by the cell tower.

Autostart

You can set the application to start automatically into the background every time the cell phone is powered up. Once the application is installed and cofigured, the user does not need to take care of it.

Remote management

Mass installation (over the air) and remote management is possible for professional users.

All who have little place on phone memory so they cant recive big files and cant change storage location in options DO EXACTLY THIS:

1. Unrar and install MsvDriveE.sis to your phone.
2. It will change your SMS folder to MMC. If not, restart phone.
3. Use a file manager and copy 'C:\System\Mail' folder onto MMC (somewhere, NOT E:\System\Mail !)
4. Turn off phone and remove MMC. Power on phone without MMC. Open 'Messages' once, it will turn SMS setting back on phone. Then turn off phone again.
5. Reinsert MMC, power on phone. Use a file manager, go to E:\System. Delete the 'Mail' folder. Move the copied 'Mail' (the other real one which we wanted to use) into E:\System. Hopefully you will suceed, as long as the phone has just restarted and you havent' opened 'messages' application or send/receive any messages.
6. Use filemanager, go to C:\System\Apps\MsvDriveE and click on MsvDriveE.app. It will reconfigure to use MMC for messages again.

DONT ERASE MsvDriveE.app OR MOBILE WILL USE PHONE MEMORY AGAIN

How to Unlock Password-protected Memory Card?
For S60 1st and 2nd Phones

What should we do if we forget the password? For S60 1st and some of 2nd phones, such as Nokia 3650, Nokia 6600 and Nokia N-Gage, the password is stored in a plain text file.

Firstly, you need to install FExplorer, a free file manager that allows us to browser through S60 file system.

Next, launch FExplorer and then browser to c:\system folder. There is a file, called mmcstore.
Rename the file to mmcstore.txt and then open it. Your password must be several characters at the end of the file.
For S60 3rd Phones, Nokia N-Series and Nokia E-Series

Unfortunately, there is no way to recover the password in the latest S60 phones. The only way that I know so far is by reformatting the memory card. It can be done from Memory Card application by selecting Options | Format memory card menu. Of course, you will lose all your data in the memory card…

If any of you have experience unlocking password of memory card in latest S60 phones, feel free to share it here.

Facebook Photos go Portable

Futurlink, a leading mobile technology company, has launched a new Facebook application that allows users to transfer Facebook photo album images to their phone with one-click downloads easily, quickly, and for free. The application works in conjunction with their Wimob platform (www.Wimob.com).

Revolutionized the Web-to-mobile industry last month with the unveiling of their new Wimob platform, allowing publishers to offer easily downloadable multimedia content for mobile phones. Today they're taking it a step further with the launch of a new Facebook application allowing users to make their Facebook photo album (and photo albums of their friends) portable. Wimob's user application and Facebook app are completely free, and allow photos from Facebook photo albums to be transferred to mobiles without incurring charges from mobile service providers.

"Previously there were two primary ways a person could put Facebook photos on their mobile phones," says Futurlink CEO David Masó. "They could surf the Web from home, manually save the image from a friend's photo album to their hard drive, and then manually upload it to their mobile - a time-consuming process and one that doesn't guarantee the image will be compatible with the user's particular mobile setup. The other option would have been fee-based, either surfing the Web directly from their mobile to access the images, or having a friend send those same photos directly to their phone. Again, compatibility is sometimes an issue. Our new Wimob Facebook application addresses these problems. Users can take their favorite photos on Facebook with them at the click of a button, and without paying mobile fees for the data transfers. Wimob also automatically adapts the downloaded images to over 1000 compatible mobile phone formats, so images can be viewed perfectly no matter what type of phone a user has."

Why would users want to make Facebook photo albums portable? - It may be because they want to keep a certain photo with them everywhere they go, or because they want to show them off to others.

- Let's say two friends, Bill and Sam, went away together on a trip. They each took photos. When they get back home, Bill wants to show off his vacation pictures to his girlfriend, but he discovers his photos didn't come out as good as he thought. Sam, on the other hand, took excellent pictures. With the Wimob Facebook application, Bill can simply visit Sam's photo album where he uploaded the images and use quick one-click downloads to put Sam's vacation photos on his mobile phone, which he can then take with him to show the photos to his girlfriend (or anyone else who asks about his trip).

- Jane is asked to speak at an industry conference. She wants to be able to quickly and easily share details of the event with her boss and co-workers. She can't take pictures during her own speech, but while on Facebook she sees that a colleague took some excellent shots during her presentation. With just one click, Jane can hand-pick her favorite images from the event to download and transfer to her mobile, which she can then take back to the office.

Getting started with Wimob's new Facebook application is an easy three-step process:

1. Download and install the Wimob Application, which serves as the go-between from Facebook photo albums to mobile phones.

2. Add the mobile phone model and type to the application settings (there are over 1000 compatible models that can be connected via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, infrared, or USB connections, and unlike similar Web-to-mobile services, Wimob offers privacy by never asking a user for their mobile phone number).

3. Get the Facebook application.

Once the application is installed, the user simply browses to their own, or a friend's, Facebook photo album and finds the photo(s) they want to take with them on their mobile. They'll see a Wimob icon, which they then click to initiate the download and transfer. Because no airtime is actually used, the user won't receive any charges from their mobile provider. Wimob piggybacks on Facebook's privacy settings, meaning users can only download photos that friends make visible to them (which they could previously do manually), and it doesn't restrict users in any way - they can download unlimited photos to their phone using the new Facebook app.
