To activate this service:

1. Log in to Google Calendar page
   
2. Click on “Settings” at the top then select the “Mobile Setup” tab.
3. Select your country from the “Country” pull-down menu.
4. In the “Phone number” field, enter your phone number.
5. Select your carrier from the drop-down menu, if requested. If the “See Help Center for supported providers” message is displayed, leave the field as it is.
6. Click on the “Send Verification Code” button and wait for a text message to be sent to your phone.
7. Once you receive this message, enter the code you received in your text message into the “Verification code” box and click on the “Finish setup” button.

Now you are all set to receive SMS alerts for the event reminders you create in Google Calendar.

Creating an Event With SMS Alert

From now onwards whenever you create an event, you get an extra option “SMS” in the add reminders section. Choose the SMS option and choose the time before the event when you should be reminded.

So from now onwards hope you never miss an event in your web calendar, even though you don’t have access to Internet.

1. Login to your orkut account and click on your profile itself. You will get your orkut id on the address bar. Like http://www.orkut.co.in/Main#Profile.aspx?uid=8791476557154432792 in my case. So 8791476557154432792 is my unique Orkut id. Note yours.
2. Now go to http://www.mytoday.com/ and register your mobile. This can only be done by sending sms REG to 9845398453. This will cost you 1 to 3 Rupees based on the operator.

1. Now Mytoday will send you your password to your mobile.

Login to http://www.mytoday.com/ using your mobile number as id and the password that you received as sms on your number.

1. Click on the 'Manage' link under the heading Feeds.
2. Click on "SMS" and at the following page you will find an option to Add Feed with two form lines to fill. One is the 'Name' and the other is 'URL'

1. Now put any xyz name of ur interest in the 'Name' field.
2. Now in the URL insert this link http://www.orkutfeeds.com/feed.php?uid=8791476557154432792 (in my case). Everything is same but you will have to change the 8791476557154432792 with your unique Orkut id which you created and noted in step 1.
3. You are done.

Note:

• This trick will not work if the scrapbook you are using is locked. So please unlock the scrapbook before doing this.
• You will not receive the smss instantly. It could take over 3-4 hours for the scrap smss to reach your inbox.
• This whole trick/process is for Indian cell users only.
• The word limit is 71. So you wont get to read the full scrap if it exceeds 71 words.

The above two tricks are mean for only Indian Users as Google SMS Channel is open only for Indian mobile users. But, this trick is for everyone : Using Twitter. (UK?). Just Create a new Twitter account and set the status of updates as “Protected” (hence, updates don’t appear in a public timeline). Now subscribe to your Gmail Atom feed using FeedBlitz and become mutual friends and ON the device updates.

The limitation of this trick : Twitter sends just 250 alerts per week and hence, you are limited to this. Moreover, Twitter is n’t faithful for device updates too. But, this way seems to be most secured, as none can read your mails. If you want to get alerts for some specific emails only, then add a filter/label and opt for the feeds of only that label.
